Lepe beach was to be third fixture of the year, and what a perfect day we had for it. There wasn't a cloud in the sky all day and not a breath of wind. These conditions put members in a good frame of mind for the nights fishing. Target species for this match would be pout, whiting, bass maybe a plaice and a chance of a ray. The nights fishing was good weather wise with it being warm and windless all night. The fishing was a bit different, there was plenty of fish caught by all members but unfortunately the majority were under size. The only species members found size able were pout.

1st place went to Mark Plowman with a bag of pout weighing 1lb 11oz

2nd was Shaun Bowditch with again a bag of pout weighing 1lb 7oz

3rd was Ben Phillips with a bag of pout weighing 1lb 3oz

Round 3 Lepe Beach
Round 1 Hythe Reclaimed Land

Second match of the year was at Avon Beach a venue a lot of members haven't fished at for years, which made things interesting. What a perfect afternoon/evening with the sun shining all day and hardly a breath of wind in the evening. The species we were targeting were pout, rockling and hopefully size-able bass and flounder.
It was an enjoyable evenings fishing with fish being caught throughout, a majority being undersize. Mind you though it was nice to catch fish with the beginning of the year so far being slow fishing wise.

What a perfect day for fishing with hardly a breath of wind and not cloud in the sky. Perfect conditions for plaice which can be caught at this venue but unfortunately a few days prior our match the weather changed and was quite rough which put some colour back into the sea and also made our chances of catching one a bit slim. But with perfect weather members were in high spirits and looking forward to the evenings match.

1st place went to Mark Plowman with a mixed bag of pout and rockling weighing 4lb 2oz.

2nd place went to Ben Phillips with a bag of pout and rockling weighing 3lb.

3rd place was Jay Bowditch with a bag of pout and rockling weighing 2lb 1oz.

Round 2 Avon Beach

The first match of the year was to be a morning flounder match at Hythe. As far as weather conditions go it was perfect, nice morning frost, no wind and very sunny. Even with the perfect conditions the fishing was not too good with only one member managing to land a flounder. A big question on a lot of peoples mind is what's happened to the flounder fishing over the last few years? Going back a few years most members would manage to catch between 5-7 fish in a morning session.

Winner of the match was Jay Bowditch with one flounder at 14oz. Giving him the first 7 points of the year.

Round 4 Chesil Beach(Cogden)

A beautiful sunrise greeted members at Hythe, shame the fishing wasn't as good.

Target species for this match would be dogfish, pout, plaice,a chance of an smoothhound and a good chance of a ray with a few being caught lately.
It turned out to be a great night weather wise and fishing wise with fish being caught constantly throughout the night. Majority being Pout,Dogfish, but with the clubs five dog limit on Chesil beach venues it gives members a chance to target other species which on this match worked well for member and co founder Paul Thomas managing to land himself a specimen small eyed ray.

1st Place was Paul Thomas with a mixed bag of Pout,Dogfish and Small Eyed Ray weighing 15lb 13oz. Paul also Landed heaviest fish Small eyed ray 9lb 3oz

2nd Place went to Ben Phillips with a bag of Dogfish,Pout and Small eyed ray weighing 14lb 6oz

3rd Place was Mark Plowman with a bag of Pout and Dogfish weighing 10lb 4oz

Round 5 Browndown Ranges

Ben Phillips with his Small eyed ray.

What a perfect day no wind, the sun beating down on us and with recent reports of smooth hounds being caught this would make for an interesting match. Target species would be smooth hounds, gilt-head bream, pout and eels. As far as the fishing during the match went it was pretty poor, with the lack of fish being caught and what we did manage to catch were under size. Even though it was slow fishing members Mark Plowman and Scott Gardener did manage to catch size-able Smooth hounds, Gilt-head Bream, Pout and eels.

1st Place was Mark Plowman with Two Smooth hounds weighing 7lb 10oz. Mark also won heaviest fish with one of his Smooth Hounds weighing 6lb 13oz.

2nd Place went to Scott Gardener with mixed bag of Gilt-head Bream, Pout and Eels weighing 3lb 12oz

For the fourth match in a row we had the sun beating down on us. We had light to moderate winds which made it a pleasant evening. With the anticipation that any minute the double figure smooth hounds would turn up on the south beaches. We were all eager for the match to begin. During the evenings fishing the double figure smooth hounds didn't turn up but the smaller 4-5 lbs did. Also throughout the night there were dogfish, pout, spotted ray and Thornback ray caught. The only downside to the nights fishing was that the may weed turned up in big amounts and made fishing almost impossible at times.

1st place went to Mark Plowman with a mixed bag weighing 12lb 6oz of pout, dogfish and a Thornback ray which won heaviest fish (9lb 8oz) and a specimen claim.

2nd place went to Ben Phillips with a bag of pout, dogfish and smooth hound weighing 9lb 10oz.

3rd place was Jason Farrenden with a bag of smooth hounds and dogfish weighing 8lb 10oz.

Round 7 Westfield Common

It rained all day but luckily by the time the match begun it had stopped and it turned out to be a pleasant evening without a breath of wind. The target species for this match would be Eels, size-able Bass and smooth hounds. Even though the weather picked up the fishing didn't, it was very slow through out the whole night with mainly micro Bass and Pout being caught. Just as the tide turned there were members lucky enough to catch size-able fish including Eels, Bass, Black Bream and a smooth hound.

1st place went to Jay Bowditch with a mixed bag of a Smooth hound (also heaviest fish weighing 5lb 3oz), Black Bream and a Bass in total weighing 7lb 4oz.

2nd place went to Ben Phillips with a Black Bream and a Eel weighing 1lb 5oz.

3rd place was Shaun Bowditch with a Eel weighing 13oz.

Round 8 Hythe Reclaimed Land

This is a match that a lot of members look forward to. Being the end of the summer species and the beginning of the winter ones means there is a big variety of fish to be caught in the Chesil shores. Due to how well the match went its easier for me to write down the fish we caught rather than the ones we didn't. We caught Pout, Poor Cod, Codling, Dogfish, Bull Huss, Grey Mullet, Red Mullet, Scad, Pollock, Whiting, Red Gurnard, Black Bream and Smooth hounds. As you can hear from that list it was a great night. Fish were literally coming form the word go right up until the last casts. Lucky for me the weather was great again as I forgot my coat!

1st place went to Jay Bowditch with a mixed bag of the before mentioned species weighing 31lb 11oz.

2nd place was Ben Phillips again with a mixed bag weighing 29lb 15oz.

3rd was Mark Plowman with another mixed bag weighing 24lb 10oz.

Heaviest fish went to Shaun Bowditch with a 3lb 8oz Codling.

Round 9 Chesil (Ferrybridge)

Like the rest of the fixtures this year so far the weather was perfect with the sun beating down on us and hardly a breath of wind. This was a match with great expectations as its venue that isn't fished to much at night due to the car park being locked at 10 and not opened to 6 in the morning,So your fishing is limited. This venue was a great choice for a match due to the fact like chesil you can catch just about anything from the smallest pout to a conger eel here.As far as fishing went during the match it was very slow, with only pout and a single pollock bought back to the weigh in.

Joint 1st place went to Paul Thomas and Ben Phillips with a bag of pout weighing 4lb 7oz

3rd place went to Jason Farrenden with another bag of pout weighing 4lb 5oz

4th place went to Jay Bowditch with mixed bag of pout and pollock weighing 3lb 5oz

I don't know what hes doing right but our match organiser has got every match including this one spot on weather wise, with it being a lovely sunny afternoon/evening without a breath of wind. Eels were the main target for this match and was all the was caught. The fishing was pleasant with fish coming in throughout the night, never a dull moment especially with eels. Member Jay Bowditch managed to catch a specimen Eel being over 2lb.

1st place and heaviest fish went to Jay Bowditch with 9lb 4oz of Eels including 2lb 2oz for the heaviest fish.

2nd place was Mark Plowman with 7lb 7oz of Eels.

3rd place was Ben Phillips with Eels weighing 5lb 1oz
